My prenatal urine test during previous checkup was showing sugar level 1+ thus doctor asked me what I ate before the checkup. I ate meesiam, yeah, the gravy was quite sweet. So after an hour to make sure full digestion of food, doctor ordered me to do a hypocount test. The result showed I had abnormal level of glucose in my blood furthermore my maternal granny is having diabetes since her young time so I need to do glucose test during next visit. This really affected my mood. But luckily this symptom only showed now, which during my second half of pregnancy else I need to worry since very early till delivery. Normally doctor will request the mum-to-be to do a glucose tolerance test when week 26~28 weeks if she has strong family history on diabetes. So coincidentally, my sugar level showed abnormal around this period.
So over the previous month, before the glucose test, I controlled cautiously over my diet. No more cakes, no more desserts, no more fruit juices....then even for bread, I only eat wholemeal bread. To me, this is super cruel, as I am a 'sweet' person, especially after I pregnant, I like to eat sweet sweet delicacies. Haiz... no choice, better pay attention on this as it will effect Chloe.
Last saturday, went for glucose test around 830am. Fasting since previous midnight, I was not scared of blood test or have to drink super sweet liquid, I worried of low blood sugar as I was almost blackout once last month after I controlled my diet. Maybe due to hungry and low sugar intake so I suddenly felt uncomfortable and I could felt I was going to 'power shut-off' so I told cw what to do if I fainted. Luckily cw gave me 2 chocolate then I regained conscious.
What is glucose test? When you arrive for the test, you'll be given a sugar solution that contains 50 grams of glucose. The stuff tastes like a very sweet soda pop (mine was orange flavor), and you have to get all of it down in five minutes. An hour later, a lab technician will take a blood sample from your arm to check your blood sugar level. The idea is to see how efficiently your body processes sugar. Another hour later, third blood sample will be taken again. Then result will be available after 45 mins - an hour.
Therefore, I took a bite then returned to clinic to see my gynae for the result. Once entered the doctor's room, my gynae said my result is slightly abnormal which normal range is below 140 then mine is 142..... speechless...due to this slightly out of the range, I have been diagnosed as gestational diabetes and have to monitor my blood sugar. However, doctor said mine is a mild problem, just slightly higher than normal and my body processes sugar slightly slower than normal. She also did ultrasound for me, Chloe is healthy and average size, heart beat alright, so she asked us not to worry too much. She said just need to control diet but is not that totally no sugar, just take lesser and reduced.

So I have to do 'home work'. Borrowed a blood glucose monitoring system from clinic (need to deposit sgd100) then bought test strips and lancets. What I need to do is prick my finger tip six times in a day once a week, to monitor blood sugar before and after an hour each meal. Then I need to record down each reading, if exceed from normal range, then need to call doctor to ask for consultation.

Read about Gestational Diabetes from BabyCenter, then will get bit anxious and worry about this but I also read some posts from experienced mother whom had diabetes for her first 2 kids and even for the third one she was considered very good condition as only slightly exceed from normal like me. Her kids all okay and healthy. So I relieved a bit.
Being a mother is really not easy, need to worry so much. In fact, my condition over these 7 months considered as quite okay, only during the beginning period experienced brownish discharge, then no morning sickness at all, just that now I have to go through this. Like cw said, is good that I have this monitoring system else even if I passed the test, I doubt myself would dare to eat uncontrollably then might end up low blood sugar again. Plus, I really need to take note on this diabetes even after I gave birth, I am in high risk group to have diabetes so must eat in balance and not eat as much as I wish. This is indeed a good lesson for me and created great awareneess.
Hopefully, this is only temporary to me. I hope me and Chloe both healthy and we have a smooth journey ahead.

Re: Week 28 ~ I have mild Gestational diabetes
Thanks Winnie, I am okay. ^^ In fact this test is part of prenatal checkup in Taiwan and maybe some other countries. In Spore, just that when indicator (urine test done during each prenatal checkup, is checking for protein and sugar) shows abnormal then you will need to do this glucose tolerance test, but some gynaes will ask about your family history on diabetes then straight away do this test when week 26~28, just like my sis, she passed on this. I will take care myslf and Chloe. :)

Re: Week 28 ~ I have mild Gestational diabetes
Yup, is six times a day, but luckily is once a week only. I pricked on 2 fingers only, if possible then I wanna do all on one finger as don't really wish to mess up so many fingers. Ha ha. Thanks Tracy, you are always so kind. :) Hope this diabetes will leave me alone after delivered, hope really is Gestational Diabetes only. So how's Mike's condition now? I suppose not that kind of serious type which needs insulin injection.

Re: Week 28 ~ I have mild Gestational diabetes
Glad to know that. :)
I know how serious diabetes can be, and seeing my granny injects insulin herself few times daily plus needs to monitor her blood sugar as well. Heart pain.
